M1 adds 3Gbps, 6Gbps, and 10Gbps broadband plans to tempt us into upgrading

M1 has introduced three new broadband plans, to bring its total number of broadband plans to five.

With 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 3Gbps, 6Gbps, and 10Gbps broadband plans, M1 says that its broadband plans “provide every and any household with the exact match to their surfing requirements”.

However, only its 3Gbps, 6Gbps, and 10Gbps broadband plans run over its XGSPON (10 Gigabit Symmetrical Passive Optical Network), which enables symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 10Gbps. They are also only available at selected locations. My team helped me test a few locations and we can report that Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Bidadari, Clementi West, and Tampines West all fell within the approved locations.  

The 1Gbps and 2.5Gbps plans run over M1’s GPON network meaning that the speed is limited compared to their faster siblings.

Customers signing up for M1’s new XGSPON plans during the promotional period will enjoy discounted rates, a waiver of one-time fees including registration and ONT installation charges, and a free home fixed voice line. All XGSPON plans also come bundled with Wi-Fi 7 routers, with M1 also using those from TP-Link and ASUS.

All 24-Month Fibre Broadband plans come with a Bespoke SurfValue (SIM only) plan, which allows eligible customers to enjoy up to 0.5GB of free local data per month at 4G speeds.

We asked M1 how long their promotional period pricing would remain but all they said was that there is no end date as of now.
