Qualcomm just announced its third generation 5G solution, the Snapdragon X60 5G modem. It is capable of delivering up to 7.5Gbps download and 3Gbps upload speeds.

It is the world's first 5nm 5G modem and is built using Samsung's 5nm process, which packs higher power efficiency into a smaller footprint for all-day battery life.

The Snapdragon X60 5G modem is also the first solution for mmWave-sub6 aggregration which gives telcos flexibility to maximise the available spectrum resources. Telcos can use a mix of frequency bands (mmWave, sub-6 GHz including low bands), band types (5G FDD and TDD) and deployment modes (SA and NSA) to achieve the optimal combination of high-speed and low-latency network coverage.

Qualcomm states that customer sampling for the Snapdragon X60 is expected to begin in Q1 2020 while 5G phones equipped with its 5G modem will launch in early 2021.
