A leaker who goes by the moniker 手机晶片达人, which literally translates to mobile phone chip expert, dismisses claims that next year’s iPhones will get 2nm chips from TSMC.

In a post on Weibo, the leaker calls these rumours “nonsense fake news”. He or she claims to have knowledge of the production capacity planning table and says TSMC’s 2nm chips will not be available until the end of 2025.

Consequently, there’s no chance that next year’s iPhones will have 2nm chips. Apple typically unveils its new phones sometime in early or mid-September.

Chips built using this new process are expected to deliver a 10% to 15% boost in performance at the same power draw level or offer 25% to 30% better power efficiency at the same performance.

These are significant improvements so it's no wonder that TSMC is reportedly working hard to accelerate its timeline to get 2nm chips ready for Apple – its main client – as soon as possible.

Seeing that the current timeline is only good for an end 2025 launch, it's hard to see how TSMC could speed things up enough to meet the deadline for next year's iPhones.
