Xiaomi has brought to Singapore its entertainment-styled tablet, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7.
Featuring an 8.7-inch display, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 has a resolution of 1340 x 800 pixels, up to 600nits of brightness, and a 90Hz adaptive sync rate. This is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 processor (from 2020), up to 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. For your audio entertainment, you get dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Handily, it also supports up to 2TB of expandable storage in a microSD card.
This puts it close to the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite that came out in 2021. An online comparison found that the performance of the MediaTek Helio G85 was better, it wasn’t significantly so in all areas.
Want to have a video call or preserve some memories, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 has an 8MP rear camera (f/2.0 aperture) and a 5MP front camera (f/2.2 aperture) to keep you covered.
One noticeable difference is that the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 is running Xiaomi’s HyperOS UI over Android U and not its familiar MIUI. This is meant to be a more polished custom Android skin while retaining MIUI's functionality.
In terms of connectivity, you get Wi-Fi, 4G, dual SIM card slots, and a USB-C port for charging. There is also a 6,650mAh battery and 18W fast charging.

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 launched in November last year featured an 8.7-inch LCD with a resolution of 1340 x 800 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. It was powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, 4GB of memory, and 64GB of internal storage. Prices at its launch started from S$249 for the Wi-Fi-only model and S$329 for the Wi-Fi and 4G version.
