The next generation Apple Pencil could come with a colour sampling sensor.
An Apple patent application published by the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reveals a "computer system with colour sampling stylus". It describes the stylus as having a colour sensor with several photodetectors to measure light for different colour channels. The colour sensor can be located at the tip or be optically coupled to the tip using a light guide.

The stylus can then be placed near a real-world object where the sensor will measure its colour and placed it in a colour palette. This technology could be handy in use cases such as photorealistic paintings or sampling of unique colours from objects such as art pieces.
