Earlier in June this year, Microsoft unveiled its own Surface tablet. Featuring a 10.6-inch screen and running Windows 8, this is Microsoft's own attempt at a piece of the lucrative tablet pie. It also said that it will launch the Surface tablet along with Windows 8.

Obviously, some of Microsoft's manufacturing partners were taken aback by the news. For them, this meant that now Microsoft has also become a direct competitor. In response to this, Acer's CEO JT Wang recently said that Microsoft should "think twice" about the Microsoft tablet. He also said that such a move would have a negative effect on the "ecosystem".

"It will create a huge negative impact for the ecosystem and other brands may take a negative reaction. It is not something you are good at so please think twice."

He also suggested that if Microsoft is serious about the hardware business, then Acer might have to look for other alternatives.

Microsoft themselves has recognized that their intentions to push ahead for their own ARM-based tablet might anger its partners. Acer surely won't be the last of them.
