It has been generally established that US$199 was an extremely competitive price-point for your tablet. But every manufacturer caught on and priced their products similarly. How exactly do you get an edge in such a market? Simple, you drop the price further.

That may actually be the exact mindset Google has. If rumors are true, there may be a new Android tablet which will cost just US$99. The entire unreleased range of devices is expected to be thinner and will apparently be using TN panels from Taiwan-based manufacturer HannStar Display according to industry sources.

The new devices are said to be available in time for Christmas this year. While the time frame is hard to believe, it would be extremely interesting if it was actually true. It would mean that we would actually have a direct showdown between the supposed Apple iPad mini and a new Google Nexus tablet contender.
