Although Google has stated its intentions to "market a tablet of the highest quality" in the next six months, it has not provided any information on how it plans to do so. However, it appears that Google has assigned ASUS to build its first Nexus-branded tablet.
According to Android and Me, two different industry sources it spoke with in person at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 claimed that the Google Nexus tablet will be manufactured by ASUS. The 7-inch device will be powered by NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is also expected to retail for US$199.
It will be not a surprise if the rumor turns out to be true. ASUS Corporate Vice President, Benson Lin commented last week that his company enjoys a very close relationship with Google and he hinted that the next version of Android will be named Jelly Beans.
Moreover, ASUS proved itself to be a staunch supporter of the Android platform. It was able to deliver timely software updates for its Eee Pad tablet devices which also happened to be among the best and most innovative products in the market. ASUS is also the first vendor to bring an Android 4.0 tablet to the mass market with its Eee Pad Transformer Prime.
