Contrary to earlier reports of the iPad Mini (1) (2) coming with cellular connectivity, the device might only come in Wi-Fi version. In addition, an updated third generation iPad is expected to be launched as well.
Multiple industry sources contacted by the Guardian stated that they do not expect to see an iPad Mini with 3G connectivity as Apple can price the iPad Mini competitively against Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets and Google Nexus.
The third generation iPad would be refreshed with a revised model that will use the same 1800MHz 4G chip and new dock connector as the iPhone 5. By doing so, the revised iPad can be used in more countries such as the U.K and Singapore where telco operators use 1800MHz for their 4G LTE networks.
When the third generation of iPad was launched in Singapore, it was found to be incompatible with the frequency bands operated by the telcos here. Apple was sued by Australia's Competition and Consumer Commission in March for "misleading" consumers on its 4G iPad as it is also not compatible with the country's 4G networks.
