Apple has just updated its basic iPad with a faster chip and more storage.

The latest iPad now comes with the A16 chip and starts with 128GB of storage.

If you recall, the A16 made its debut in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. It features a five-core CPU and a 4 core GPU. It also means this new iPad won’t support Apple Intelligence.

As for storage, the base model now comes with double the storage at 128GB. If you need more storage, versions with 256GB and 512GB of storage are available.

The rest of the iPad is unchanged. This means you get an 11-inch Liquid Retina display, a single 12MP camera at the back, and only support for USB-C Apple Pencil and the first-generation Apple Pencil. And if you need a keyboard, it'll work with the Magic Keyboard Folio.

As it stands, it’s a minor upgrade for Apple’s most basic iPad. The updates are welcomed, but I was surprised to see that it won’t support Apple Intelligence. That said, I don’t think that’ll be a dealbreaker for its target audience and intended use.

Availability and pricing

The new iPad is available in blue, pink, yellow, and silver and prices start at S$499. It's available for pre-order now. It will be available in retail on 12 March.
