Spotify has upgraded its tablet navigation app experience after relying on its oversized phone version for years.
In an official statement shared on Spotify’s website, the new app layout for tablets is “available on iOS and Android devices” (it probably meant iPadOS, but you get the point).
In general, the improvements make better use of the extra space (versus smartphones). Spotify tweaks to make browsing more natural, the content more immersive, and give users more control across their playlists and music discovery.
The new layout uses all corners of the tablet you paid for. All!

Specifically, the changes are:
- Collapsible Sidebar: A new sidebar now contains scrollable content, and it’s expandable with interactive content, all without losing sight of what’s currently playing.
- Parallel browsing: Music or video plays on one side of the display, while the user can browse their library, playlist, or recommendations on the other.
- New “Switch to Video” placement: The “Switch to Video” toggle is now front and centre in the app, making it easier to switch to a more immersive view.
- Portrait and landscape optimisations: Besides keeping the core of Spotify's navigation, the app now reconfigures its layout when used in either landscape or portrait mode. It’s no longer a simple resizing like before.
