Xiaomi 17 series debuts in China, bringing base, Pro, and Pro Max models

Xiaomi is among the first Android phone makers to unveil its 2026 premium-tier flagship smartphones, shortly after Qualcomm revealed its next-generation mobile platform.

The Xiaomi 17 series announcement revealed the base model, Xiaomi 17, alongside pro-grade Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max models (thus far). Expected upgrades include the newest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, alongside other added perks to take advantage of its enhanced power in their displays, cameras, batteries, and even added features in the Pro series handsets.

Xiaomi 17 

While the base Xiaomi 17 comes in a compact 6.3-inch display at 3,500-nits peak brightness, it has now reduced the bezels to 1.18mm for a more immersive viewing experience. Other display perks are the M10 Display Panel and SuperRED luminous material, but it’s still unclear what these new additions do for the phone.

Returning is the Leica partnership, with Xiaomi 17 packing Leica Summilux lenses across all rear cameras. The 50MP main now uses a Light Fusion 950 sensor with f/1.6 aperture and OIS, while the telephoto lens at 60mm equivalent (likely 3x for optical zoom) has f/2.0 aperture and 10cm close-focus enabled. Xiaomi has also added a new Master Portrait shooting mode, which is said to offer professional-grade quality in skin tone reproduction and hair rendering.

Another huge change is the 7,000mAh battery, approximately ~33.5% larger than the previous Xiaomi 15’s 5,240mAh. It still comes with perks like 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and Xiaomi Surge Battery protection. Its 100W charging is compatible with 100W PPS, a universal charging protocol.

Other minor features include its USB-C port rated at 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps). Of course, it now packs in the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform, too.

Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max

The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max are one grade higher, with identical Pro-tier specs, except for their display sizes (6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively) and resulting battery capacities (6,300mAh and 7,500mAh, respectively). This is similar to the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which differ only in physicality.

The stand-out difference here is the Pro and Pro Max’s Dynamic Back Display. This secondary rear panel, which wraps around the phones’ camera lenses in the top quadrant, can be customised with AI wallpapers, watch faces, virtual pets, and dynamic notifications for flights, ride-hailing, music playback. The supplementary display also doubles as a larger viewfinder for rear-camera selfies. For gamers, it can also offer Handheld Console Mode for retro-styled games (if paired with a Bluetooth controller accessory).

Over to the front is the M10 Display Panel using SuperRED luminous material, on top of a new independent pixel array technology for added pixel clarity. The main display is further protected with Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0.

The Pro and Pro Max’s main camera has f/1.67 aperture, anti-glare coating, 1G + 6P lenses, on top of using Light Fusion 950L that has a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor. To aid with a greater exposure range, the camera also has LOFIC High Dynamic offering up to 16.5EV range.

The telephoto camera uses an inverted floating telephoto lens which supports macro shots that has 20cm focusing distance, making it easier to take macro shots. The same lens also has 5x periscope telephoto, and hardware-based HDR support. Xiaomi said these perks give the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max an added 30% increase for its telephoto light intake.

Like the base model, they also have 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 100W PPS compatibility. They are also UWB-compatible, which means modern car owners can use its keyless access for car keys.

Pricing and availability

• Xiaomi 17: CNY4,499 (12+256GB), CNY 4,799 (12+512GB), CNY4,999 (16+512GB)
• Xiaomi 17 Pro: CNY4,999 (12+256GB), CNY5,299 (12+512GB), CNY 5,599 (16+512GB), CNY 5,999 (16+1TB)
• Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: CNY5,999 (12+512GB), CNY6,299 (16+512GB), CNY6,999(16+1TB)

In China, Xiaomi 17 series retails from 27 September 2025, 10 AM (China Time) onwards.
