ZTE has launched a clamshell foldable flip phone. Of all places, it’s exclusive to the Japanese market.
As seen on its official newsroom (JP), the ZTE Libero Flip will begin retail on 29 February 2024 through Japanese phone operator Y!Mobile.
The promotional campaign for the ZTE Libero Flip comes with a free phone case that has 2,000 designs for users to choose from.
ZTE is also running several campaigns to promote the flip phone. Its news release showed that each purchase of the device comes with a free phone casing accessory, with over 2,000 designs to choose from.
On the Y!Mobile listing page, it showed a pre-order discount of 37%, which brings its original price of JPY63,000 (~S$562.34) down to just JPY39,800 (~S$355.25). The catch is that it requires a contract plan, with three plans to choose from.

Specs-wise, the ZTE Libero Flip comes with a 6.9-inch main display (2,790 x 1,188 pixels resolution) and a 1.43-inch round secondary display (466 x 466 pixels resolution) on the front cover. The secondary display comes dotted with dual cameras, featuring a primary shooter of 50MP and a supporting depth camera of 2MP. The in-display camera sits at 16MP.
ZTE also added that the 4,310mAh phone supports 33W wired fast charging with Qualcomm QC 4.0 and USB PD 3.0. However, it seems like the Chinese phone brand doesn’t provide a compatible adapter or cable out of the box, since there’s a caveat asking users to prepare “a charger and cable that supports quick charging”.
The secondary display is similar to the one found on Tecno's Phantom V Flip.
Despite its low price, the phone is no slouch, touting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset and 5G support. However, it comes with a tiny 128GB internal storage. It also has an odd IP rating of IP42 for dust and water protection.
