Zagg’s InvisibleShield Glass Curve Elite is how curved screen protectors should be done

Zagg may have just figured out how to make a good tempered glass screen protector for curved screen displays. The InvisibleShield Glass Curve Elite will work with the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8, so it’s at least got some of the more popular Android phones covered.

As an owner of the Google Pixel 2 XL, I know first-hand the pain that comes with looking for a glass screen protector that covers the entire display and is also easy to apply. Long story short, I’m pretty sure they don’t exist, and you’ll be forced to settle for some sort of compromise.

To understand why Zagg’s solution is so promising, you’ll first have to know what the current crop of curved screen protectors looks like. Right now, the best curved screen protector for the Pixel 2 XL is probably the Whitestone Dome Glass, which requires you to apply LOCA glue to the screen and then use a UV light to cure it.

You can just imagine the number of ways this could go wrong, and the entire process takes far longer than a regular application.

If you don’t want to go that route, the other decent alternative is something like this amFilm screen protector. However, it only has adhesive around the edges, which means it’s had to include a dot matrix to avoid reducing touchscreen sensitivity by too much. This dot matrix is clearly visible when the screen is off, and it really doesn’t make for the best look.

You’ll also have to put up with an assortment of halos and rainbow effects on the screen when these protectors fail to fully adhere. There are flat protectors with full-screen adhesive, but these don't offer proper edge-to-edge protection.

Fortunately, Zagg’s InvisibleShield Glass Curve Elite may just be the screen protector you’ve been waiting for.

It uses a gel-based adhesive that sticks to the entire screen surface, so the curved edges are protected as well and there’s no need for any dot matrix. Furthermore, this isn’t liquid LOCA glue, so you don’t have to cure it and worry about it spilling over the edges.

The protector ships with a helpful installation frame that you put over the phone. This is a quick way of ensuring that the protector is aligned correctly, and first-time users will definitely appreciate it.

Of course, it’s difficult to say how good the protector is without actually trying it out, but it sure looks like a step in the right direction. It’s currently available on Zagg’s website for US$49.99.
