Xiaomi to launch Redmi 2 in Singapore on March 10?

Looking for a budget dual-SIM phone that supports 4G? Looks like Xiaomi's Redmi 2 would be sold here soon.

I’ll cut to the chase. Rumors are flying that the Redmi 2, which is the successor to the popular Redmi 1S, is expected to launch in Singapore next week, March 10. (Update: Looks like Malaysia too, a day after.)

As we’ve report earlier, the Redmi 2 comes in two versions. The regular Redmi 2 has a 4.7-inch, 720p IPS screen, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2MP front camera, supports dual micro-SIM cards, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core 1.2GHz SoC, with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. The enhanced version has roughly the same specs, but with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Both come with a 2,200mAh (rated capacity) battery and supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 1.0 standard.

While we aren’t able to confirm which one would be sold here, one thing’s for sure: regardless of the version, the Redmi 2 supports Singapore’s FDD-LTE networks, which use Band 3 (1,800MHz) and 7 (2,600MHz) frequencies. The current Redmi 1S also has two SIM slots, but one slot is reserved for 3G and the other slot is for 2G.

In China, the Redmi 2 and its enhanced variant are selling for 699 Yuan (~S$153) and 799 Yuan (~S$174) respectively. The still-current Redmi 1S has a S$169 price tag on Mi Singapore's online store.
