WP8 to Support 1080p Displays and Quad-Core Processors by End of 2013
The Verge reports that Microsoft will be bringing support for 1080p displays and quad-core processors to Windows Phone 8 by end of the year.

The Android camp has introduced several smartphones with Full-HD (1080p) displays in the first four months of 2013 and Microsoft is not going to let its Windows Phone platform lag behind the competition again.
According to The Verge, sources familiar with Microsoft's Windows Phone plans claim that an update will be issued later this year which will bring support for 1080p displays and quad-core processors to Windows Phone 8 (WP8). Known as General Distribution Release (GDR3), the update will usher in a new wave of WP8 devices during the year-end holiday season.
WP8 currently supports 3 display resolutions - 800 x 480 (WVGA), 1280 x768 (WXGA), 1280 x 720 (HD 720p). The shared Windows Core has been performance optimized for multi-core processors, but the existing flagship WP8 devices such as the Nokia Lumia 920, Windows Phone 8X by HTC, Samsung Ativ S and Huawei Ascend W1 are powered by dual-core processors.
