If you are using WhatsApp on an Android smartphone, backing up the chat history with voice messages, photos and videos can be a hassle as there wasn't an automatic backup to the cloud unlike Apple's iCloud for WhatsApp. Starting today, it is more convenient to backup WhatsApp to the cloud thanks to Google Drive!

Announced a few days ago, Google Drive allows WhatsApp for Android to create a private backup of the chat history, voice messages, photos and videos on its cloud storage service and restore them in a new Android device with just a few taps.

With 15GB free cloud storage space across Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, you certainly have plenty of space to backup your chat conversations. Google states that the backup feature will be rolling out gradually over the next few months. For more information on how to backup WhatsApp messages on Android, do check out Google's Help Center.
