WhatsApp just announced new calling features across its desktop and mobile apps.

For group chats, WhatsApp users can select call participants before starting the call and avoid disrupting the rest. This should be especially useful for situations like planning a surprise party or preparing a gift for loved ones.

Users can now toggle between 10 effects to transform their video calls into more fun conversations. The effects include puppy ears, underwater animation and a microphone for karaoke.

WhatsApp calling on desktops has also been enhanced. A calls tab is available within the app for users to start a call, create and share a call link, or dial a number directly. Video calls on WhatsApp will also be more reliable and in higher resolution.

These new features will be rolling out over the next few weeks. Update your WhatsApp to the latest version to ensure you get them.
