The Vivo V30 is here, with many improvements to make selfies more radiant, and portrait shots prettier than before.
The phone was launched internationally in early February 2024 before finally entering the Singapore market on 23 March 2024 — which is extremely quick even by smartphone standards, given that its predecessor's Singapore launch was a mere five months before (review here).
Upgraded ring light, now a square

Vivo brought about several practical upgrades to enhance its core offerings across the board. The most prominent change is the step up to Aura Light Portrait 3.0, now a square. According to Vivo, the new “ring” light is 19x larger and 50x brighter than conventional smartphone LED flash.

Other improvements include distance-sensitive lighting, where the ring light offers a softer cast if the subject is nearer to the camera. It also has a 20% broader colour temperature range, making it even more flexible at providing warmer or cooler fill light in harsher shooting environments. Another upgrade is that the ring light now responds to food photography with Food Mode, so food photos no longer rely on selfie algorithms.
Midrange phone catering to all your photo and video needs

The rest of the phone’s perks are designed to take advantage of the Vivo V30’s capabilities to get great shots or videos with minimal effort. Both rear cameras (50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide) and its 50MP front camera have AutoFocus for sharp, clean solo and group shots. Videography gets Hybrid Image Stabilisation (OIS and EIS) for pro-grade vlogging, and there’s a Micro Movie option in the default camera app for creating short videos with less effort.
The fundamentals aren’t ignored either. A midrange Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset powers it all, paired with a longer-lasting 5,000mAh battery with 80W wired charging touts 1,600 discharge cycles.

Sadly, the Vivo V30 Pro isn’t coming to Singapore, but users aren’t missing out on too much. The Pro version uses a different chipset (MediaTek Dimensity 8200) with faster RAM and storage (LPDDR5x and UFS 3.1, versus the LPDDR4x and UFS 2.2 on V30). The other components, like their cameras, displays, battery size and charging speeds, and even IP54 water-and-dust resistance, are similar, if not identical, across both models (Full specifications of Vivo V30 at the bottom).
