U.S delays full ban for Huawei, but adds 46 of its subsidiaries to the ban list
The U.S Commerce Department announced another 90-day extension for Huawei to continue sending updates to phones and maintaining existing network equipment.
As expected, the U.S government is extending the temporary license for Huawei to continue sending updates to phones and maintain existing network equipment.
U.S Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross made the announcement on Fox Business and provided the reason for the extension. Ross shared that several rural companies are dependent on Huawei and the U.S government is giving them a little more time to wean themselves off.
However, Huawei is not totally off the hook. Another 46 subsidiaries of Huawei are added to the ban list today, which brings the total number of subsidiaries to more than 100. This actually makes it harder for Huawei to continue to do business in the U.S.
The U.S Commerce Department has not issued any license to any American company to do business with Huawei even though Ross said last month that it will only do so when there is no threat to U.S national security.
