TCL, better known in Singapore for its displays and home appliances, just announced a new entry-level smartphone at CES 2025.

The TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G smartphone takes TCL’s expertise in display technology to create a device designed for regular phone use, plus added reading comfort and optimisation.

The unique sell is a built-in physical NXTPAPER Key that lets users switch between its standard 6.8-inch FHD+ resolution panel at 120Hz refresh rate into an e-ink format called Max Ink Mode.

In essence, the unique, double-duty display can flit between an e-reader, or a budget mobile gamer’s companion.

Building upon its display prowess are a host of eye protection features, such as an Eye Care Assistant that reminds users to take breaks, a Night Light Mode for extra reading illumination in the dark, and a Night-Friendly Screen to protect the eyes in dim viewing conditions.

TCL claims it also has its own brand of phone AI, which offers translation, summarisation, rewriting, transcribing, and other productivity-related AI perks.

The basics include a triple rear camera combo (with 50MP main), a 5,010mAh battery, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. However, the announcement didn’t say what processor it’s using.

TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G will be available in Canada in May 2025 for US$199 (~S$272.41),. The US market will follow suit “later this year”.”There is no news about availability in Singapore, but one can hope.
