Sony claims Xperia 10 V is the world’s lightest 5G smartphone (yet)
Just 159g, but still packing 5,000mAh? Is this witchcraft, or just Sony?

Sony’s flagship-grade Xperia phone launches are typically accompanied by a midrange variant that has unique properties, appealing to Sony fans who would want something more affordable yet competent.
Alongside the Sony Xperia 1 V launch comes the mid-range Sony Xperia 10 V, a 2023 midrange smartphone that Sony claimed to be the “world’s lightest 5G smartphone”.
There may be some truth to that. The Sony Xperia 10 V spec sheet puts the handset at 195g, paired with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor (which handles CPU, GPU, and modem demands). Weirdly, it’s the same chipset in the preceding Xperia 10 IV, but the new 10 V is indeed lighter by another 2g.
More amazing is that the Xperia 10 V shaved off two grams without losing its 5,000mAh battery capacity, which alludes to the phone’s lighter construct and material choice. Even then, it’s still rated at IP65/68 for water and dust resistance and packs the same Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for protection.

While its processor wasn’t upgraded, the new Sony Xperia 10 V gets a new imaging sensor that Sony said was 1.6 times larger than the predecessor (48MP main, 8MP telephoto, 8MP ultrawide). It also gets a new set of front stereo speakers, which Sony believes is necessary for a better entertainment experience on its midrange mobile.
Over at the front is a 6.1-inch Full HD+ resolution (2,520 x 1,080 pixels) OLED display with 60hz refresh rate. While that’s not quite Google Pixel 7a’s 90Hz refresh rate (review here), having a similar display size makes the Sony Xperia 10 V another contender among compact phone users.
Other features include a 3.5mm audio jack, MicroSD expandable storage support, a fingerprint sensor, and NFC. It’s quite a complete package.

The Sony Xperia 10 V officially retails at S$679, with pre-orders available until 30 June 2023. You can find it offline at official Sony outlets or the Sony Online Store.
