Sony's mobile business continues to shrink based on the latest shipment and operating loss figures.

According to Xperia Blog, Sony managed to only ship 1.1 million Xperia phones in Q1 2019 which is the lowest ever for the company. The company estimates to ship 5 million Xperia units for next year. In addition, operating losses increased by 70 billion yen to 97 billion.

Sony is counting on several new products such as the Xperia 1 smartphone to turn a profit for the company. While it focuses on "important regions" of East Asia, Japan and Europe, Sony also confirmed that it has already left several markets including the Middle East, and Central and South America.

Sony recently closed a smartphone plant in China to cut costs and the mobile division will be combined with the TV, Audio, and Camera products into a new unit called Electronics Products and Solutions. Sony is also reportedly cutting its smartphone force by 50%.
