Sony is the biggest image sensor supplier, earns $20 on every Apple iPhone 6 sold
Marketing research firm Techno Systems Research published a study which states that Sony is the biggest supplier of camera sensors in the world, especially the ones made for smartphones. Its analysts also claim that Sony makes $20 for every Apple iPhone 6 sold.

Sony may be losing S$432 million on its mobile division this year, but its devices unit (specifically the imaging sensors) is rising to be the saviour for the company.
According to a study by marketing research firm Techno Systems Research, Sony is currently the biggest supplier of camera sensors with a market share of 40%. U.S-based OmniVision and Samsung occupy 15.7% and 15.2% of the market respectively.
In addition, analysts estimate that Sony makes $20 on every Apple iPhone 6 sold today. If you take into consideration the number of iPhone 6 models sold worldwide which contributed to Apple's two consecutive record high quarter earnings, you will understand why Sony is expecting its profits from the devices units to increase by 16.5% this year.
That's not all; Apple reportedly ordered so many camera sensors from Sony for its next generation iPhone models that the latter is unable to fulfil orders from competing brands such as Samsung, Toshiba and Huawei. It seems that there is always a silver lining in every cloud, especially for Sony.
