Sharp just announced the local pricing and availability of its latest midrange phone, the Aquos Sense9.
As the successor to the Sense8 phone which was released in Singapore in May, the Aquos Sense9 sports a 6.1-inch Full HD+ Pro IGZO OLED screen that is 4x brighter with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits.
The OLED screen also has 240Hz variable refresh rate, which adapts based on the content displayed. Motion scenes in videos and mobile gaming will see the screen being updated 120 times per second, while static scenes use refresh rates as low as 1Hz to maximise power efficiency.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and a 5,000mAh battery, Sharp claims the Aquos Sense9 phone can offer up to two days of battery life when used for 10 hours a day.

Despite the massive battery and big screen, the Aquos Sense9 maintains a relatively slim and lightweight chassis at 8.9mm and 166g, thanks to 100% recycled aluminium. Most phones of its class are 180g to 220g.
Do not belittle the aluminium chassis, as Sharp states it conforms to MIL-STD-810H standards with a shock and drop resistance rating of MIL-STD-810G. The Aquos Sense9 phone is designed to survive under challenging conditions, which include:
- drops from a height of 1.22m on plywood in 26 directions
- waterproof at a depth of 1.5m for 30 minutes
- raindrops for 15 minutes
- humidity resistance against 95% RH for 10 consecutive days
- rapid temperature changes from -21 degrees celsius to 50 degrees celsius
- freeze resistance for 72 hours from -33 degrees celsius to -25 degrees celsius
- heat resistance for 72 hours at 63 degrees celsius
- operation for two hours under continuous low pressure conditions (57.2kPA / altitude of about 4,572m)
On the software front, the Aquos Sense9 ships with Android 14 and Sharp promises support up to 3 OS versions along with 5 years of security updates. While it pales in comparison with Google and Samsung's 7-year software support guarantee, it's decent enough considering Sharp is a new player in the local market.
Other specs include 8GB of memoryRAM, 256GB internal storage space, a 50.3MP main camera with OIS, and a 50.3MP ultra-wide camera that does macro photography up to 2.5cm. It also has a 32MP front-facing camera that supports night mode for selfie shots, and face and fingerprint recognition.

The Sharp Aquos Sense9 phone is available for pre-order now at Cocorolife, Lazada and Shopee for S$599 (U.P $638). Of its six available colours, four are coming to Singapore: Black, White, Blue, and Coral (both Green and Greige are for other markets).
Pre-order promotions include free Sharp earbuds (worth $149) and a limited edition Hello Kitty 50th anniversary 24K gold-plated commemorative medallion (limited to 60 pieces and on a first-come-first-served basis).
Sharp has been ramping up its presence in the local market with several releases in the past two years. In October 2023, it launched 5G and 4G phones, Aquos V6 5G and V6 Plus 4G, at under S$500.
Earlier this year, Sharp announced the flagship Aquos R8s Pro and the Sense8.
Just four months ago, it also unveiled the high-end Aquos R9 and entry-level Aquos Wish4 phones.
