Samsung's new 256GB UFS 2.0 memory chip is smaller than a microSD card
Samsung unveiled the industry's first 256GB embedded memory based on the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 standard for high-end mobile devices.

According to Samsung, the 256GB UFS 2.0 memory chips are capable of handling up to 45,000 and 40,000 input and output operations per second (IOPS) for random reading and writing. This is over two times faster than the previous generation of UFS memory.
In terms of sequential reading and writing, the 256GB UFS 2.0 is blazing fast. It uses two lanes of data transfer to transfer data at up to 850MB/s, which is almost twice as fast as a typical SATA-based SSD used in PCs. Its write speeds are approximately three times faster than high-performance external microSD cards at up to 250MB/s. The 256GB UFS 2.0 can also support 4K video playback and multitasking features on large-screen mobile devices.
All these goodness are packed in a size which Samsung claims to be even smaller than an external microSD card. The first consumer devices to ship with the 256GB UFS 2.0 memory chips are expected to arrive later this year.
