The Game Optimising Service (GOS) controversy apparently forced Samsung and Korean telcos to increase subsidies to boost sales of the Galaxy S22 models.

Sales of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series in South Korea were reportedly affected by the recent GOS controversy.
The Korea Times reports that Samsung and the Korean telcos have increased their subsidies significantly for the Galaxy S22 series as sales have been declining amid the GOS controversy. Two Korean telcos, KT and LG UPlus apparently increased their subsidies by up to US$410.
An official from a Korean telco said that "there is a view that the GOS issue adversely affects the sales of the Galaxy S22, but there is no clear decline in terms of sales volume". An analyst from Eugene Investment & Securities claims that the GOS controversy has inflicted serious damages to the credibility of the Samsung brand and Galaxy models.
The GOS controversy started in early last month when several users reported apps being throttled on the Galaxy phones. Samsung investigated the reports and confirmed that GOS is to be blamed.
GOS is designed to optimise the performance of the Galaxy phones during gaming to "deliver the best mobile experience for consumers", but it deliberately excluded benchmarking apps from being throttled. The South Korean company says it will roll out a software update to allow users to control the performance of their phones, and CEO JH Han apologised to customers and shareholders during the annual meeting.
