Samsung has just confirmed that it will launch its new AI assistant in the upcoming and eagerly anticipated Galaxy S8 smartphone.

Early last month, we reported that Samsung has acquired AI startup Viv, which is founded by  Kittlaus, Cheyer, and Brigham, the same people who created and Siri and sold the technology to Apple in 2010.

Beyond this confirmation, Samsung did not specify exactly what the AI assistant would do, except to say that it will "allow customers to use third-party services seamlessly".

Samsung Executive Vice President Rhee Injong said, "Developers can attach and upload services to our agent. Even if Samsung doesn't do anything on its own, the more services that get attached the smarter this agent will get, learn more new services and provide them to end-users with ease."

A lot rests on the Galaxy S8 smartphone's shoulders as Samsung seeks to bounce back from its Galaxy Note7 explosion/battery fiasco, restore customer confidence, and revive earnings.

It was earlier reported that the Galaxy Note7 crisis could cost Samsung as much as over US$2 billion.

The new Galaxy S8 is expected to go on sale early next year.
