Select midrange Samsung phones will be getting a vital AI upgrade soon.

According to Samsung’s recent announcement on its official newsroom, Samsung Electronics will bring a core feature to Galaxy A series midrange phones: the ability to summon Google Gemini with a long-press of the side button.

This feature is adopted from Samsung’s flagship-tier Galaxy S series, where phones like the Galaxy S25 Ultra (review here) can summon Gemini if you press and hold its power button.

For the unbothered, Google’s Gemini AI is a blend of voice assistance and an AI prompt-based assistant, similar to ChatGPT. With the rollout of One UI 7, Samsung has replaced its in-house Bixby with Gemini.

The bigger implication is that Gemini is moving towards Gemini 2.0, which will supposedly be agentic when fully formed. If that really happens, there's potential for many menial phone tasks to be automated in a single ask.

Specifically, these Samsung midrange models will receive the update:

The update requires these devices to already be on Samsung’s latest One UI 7 interface, and the rollout will start in May 2025.
