Sticking to its device strategy since the Galaxy S III, Samsung unveiled a smaller variant of its Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone

Known as the Galaxy S5 Mini, the smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) Super AMOLED display and is powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz processor. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, 1.5GB RAM and a 2,100mAh battery. Like the 5.1-inch counterpart, the Galaxy S5 Mini is certified IP67 for water and dust resistance. Software-wise, the Galaxy S5 Mini comes with a host of features that debut on the Galaxy S5 which include the Ultra Power Saving mode and heart rate sensor.

Samsung states that the Galaxy S5 Mini will be available in Russia starting in early July and is planned to expand to global market. At launch, the device will be available in four color options: Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold.

We've checked with Samsung Mobile Singapore on the availability of the device and was told that the company has no plans to bring it to the local market. This is surprising since the Galaxy S III Mini and Galaxy S4 Mini were launched here. Nonetheless, here's a quick overview of the specs of the mini variants:
