Samsung plans to have five million Galaxy S7 units for launch in February

Anonymous sources told South Korea's Electronic Times that Samsung is planning an initial production of 5 million Galaxy S7 units.

With Samsung expected to cut smartphone shipments next year, a report has surfaced claiming that the Korean company plans to have a modest quantity of Galaxy S7 units available at launch.

According to Reuters, anonymous sources told South Korea's Electronic Times that Samsung is planning an initial production of five million Galaxy S7 units. In addition, Samsung is said to be launching two variants of the Galaxy S7 in February 2016. They consists of a 5.2-inch flat-screen model and a 5.5-inch curved screen model.

Of the five million units in the initial batch, Samsung has allocated 3.3 million units for the flat-screen model and about 1.6 million units for the curved screen model. Considering how initial demand for the Galaxy S6 exceeded the supply, it's odd that Samsung did not learn from its earlier mistake.

Samsung is rumored to be holding an event on 21st February to launch the Galaxy S7. GizmoChina believes that there will be three models of the Galaxy S7 - the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 Plus - based on leaked images of cases for the devices.
