Samsung is rumoured to be bringing AMD GPUs to its mid-range Exynos chipsets next year.
Tipster @Tech_Reve shared Samsung plans to use AMD GPUs in its mid-range Exynos processors such as the Exynos 1480 and Exynos 1430 in 2024. The tipster cautioned that consumers should not have "overly high expectations for gaming performance" as Samsung is said to focus more on imaging. This means that the upcoming mid-range Exynos chipsets are likely to have cut-down GPUs with ray tracing disabled.
The Exynos 2200, which powered some Galaxy S22 models in other markets, uses the Xclipse GPU based on AMD RNDA 2 architecture. It offers advanced features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing and variable-rate shading.
Earlier this year, Samsung and AMD announced a multi-year agreement extension to bring Radeon Graphics to Exynos chipsets. In the announcement, Samsung stated that multiple generations of high-performance, ultra-low-power AMD Radeon graphics would be used in an expanded portfolio of Exynos chipsets. More Samsung devices would then offer console-level graphics quality and optimised power consumption.
With AMD GPUs coming to the mid-range Exynos chipsets, Samsung's mid-range smartphones could become more attractive to consumers.
