Samsung validates claim of having the fastest DRAM with the help of MediaTek

The Korean’s LPDDR5X DRAM clocks in at 10.7Gbps, with 25% power consumption and performance improvement.

Samsung announced that it has completed the verification of having the industry’s fastest dynamic random access memory (DRAM), using MediaTek’s Dimensity mobile processors.

In an official statement, Samsung Electronics said that its Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM’s top speed was validated using a yet-to-launch MediaTek Dimensity 9400 system-on-chip (SoC), which contained 16GB of Samsung DRAM

It clocked in at 10.7Gbps operation speed, roughly 20% faster than the industry’s gold standard for LPDDR5X speeds (if you check here and here). Samsung also claimed that its 10.7Gbps speed also comes with 25% improved power consumption and performance compared to the previous generation.

The two companies, MediaTek and Samsung, jointly worked on the verification and completed it within three months.

Of course, flaunting big, throbbing DRAM in numbers means nothing without context. Samsung said that the new top speeds allow longer battery lives for mobile devices using its DRAM and help improve on-device AI performance by improving the speeds of AI features.
