Following an earlier report by The Korea Herald on Samsung and LG launching foldable phones later this year, Business Korea released its own report claiming otherwise.

Industry sources reportedly told Business Korea that the prototype of the foldable phone, known as the Galaxy X, may be revealed this year, but it is likely to be released to the market in the first half of 2018 based on current product development and mass production plans. The Galaxy X has been reported previously by ETNews. Dubbed the "smartlet", the device is said to be a 5-inch smartphone which can unfold into a 7-inch tablet

Kolon Industries has been identified as a parts supplier for foldable smartphones of Samsung and LG. As it usually takes two to three months to supply and mass produce components, Business Korea believes that foldable smartphones can only be commercialized early next year.
