Synaptics currently has three ClearPad discrete touch controller solutions for Android vendors to implement 3D Touch-like features in their flagship smartphones next year, but Samsung already has plans for such features at least a year ago.

According to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, Samsung filed a patent titled "Touch Input Apparatus and Electronic Device Having Thereof" in April 2014. The patent describes a display that can differentiate between the amount of force applied and the corresponding voltage. The changes in the electromagnetic field will translate into different software commands such as using a key as both a space and tab key depending on the amount of force applied on it.

With Apple and Huawei leading the market with their respective pressure-sensitive display technologies, it's only a matter of time before Samsung comes up with similar technologies to match its rivals.
