Samsung is likely to enter the competitive generative AI space with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series in early 2024.
Samsung unveiled its own generative AI model, Samsung Gauss during the company's AI Forum. The name Gauss comes from mathematician, Carl Friedrich Gauss, who established normal distribution theory – a fundamental concept behind machine learning.
Developed by Samsung Research, Gauss is made up of three sub-models:
- Samsung Gauss Language
- Samsung Gauss Code
- Samsung Gauss Image
Together, Samsung Gauss can do tasks like composing emails, summarising text, translating content, generating and editing images, and converting low-resolution photos into high-resolution ones.
While Samsung Gauss is currently used for employee productivity, the company plans to integrate these generative AI models into "a variety of Samsung product applications to provide new user experience in the near future".
Since the Galaxy S24 series is tipped to launch in January 2024, there is a very high possibility of them shipping with Samsung Gauss since Apple is not expected to launch any generative AI product or service next year. Samsung Gauss powering the Galaxy S24 series could become a key selling feature and help drive sales numbers.
