Samsung makes 5G affordable by launching Galaxy A13 5G and Galaxy A23 5G

Samsung today (29 August 2022) announced two 5G-ready, entry-level handsets – the Galaxy A13 5G, and Galaxy A23 5G – making affordable 5G attainable for folks who don’t need an overpowered, high-end smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy A13 5G uses a MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G chipset, and it pairs the processor with a 6.5-inch TFT display rated at HD+ (720p) and 90Hz refresh rate. Its rear cameras consist of a 50MP main, a 2MP depth cam, and a 2MP macro camera. Other specs include 6GB RAM and 15W fast charging. 

On the other hand is the Samsung Galaxy A23 5G, which instead uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor. It uses a 6.6-inch display rated at FHD+ (1080p) and 120Hz refresh rate. Rear cameras here are also slightly different, with a 50MP main that has OIS, 5MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth and 2MP macro camera. This device has 8GB RAM by default and 25W fast charging.

The two Galaxy A series phones are otherwise nearly identical on paper. Both have 5,000mAh, 128GB internal storage, up to 1TB microSD card support, the same connectivity options (up to Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C 2.0), and the same operating system (One UI 4.1 based on Android 12). They even come in the same colourways: Awesome Black, Awesome Light Blue, and Awesome Orange.

Pricing and availability

Samsung Galaxy A13 5G is now available at major telcos (M1, Singtel, StarHub), the Samsung Online Store, and selected Samsung Experience Stores. It retails at S$348.

The Samsung Galaxy A23 5G will be available from 24 September 2022 at the same major telcos, the Samsung Online Store, and Samsung Experience Stores as well. Additionally, it can also be found at major consumer electronics and IT stores, as well as Samsung’s official Lazada and Shopee storefronts. It retails at S$448.
