Samsung refreshes its Galaxy A series less than a year after introducing them into the market. Known officially as the Galaxy A (2016), it consists of three models - the Galaxy A7 (2016), the Galaxy A5 (2016) and the Galaxy A3 (2016).

The most noticeable change is the design where the Galaxy A (2016) inherits the same design language of the Galaxy S6. You get a combination of metal and glass, camera and LED flash combo shape and positioning, narrower bezels around the display and more rounded corners. All three smartphones ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop, 16GB internal storage space, and support microSD expansion up to 128GB.

Starting off with the Galaxy A7 (2016), it boasts the same screen size (5.5-inches) and resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) as its predecessor. Three of the biggest upgrades are the 3GB RAM (up from 2GB RAM), and the inclusion of optical image stabilization and a wider aperture of f/1.9 for the rear camera. The Galaxy A7 (2016) also boasts a bigger battery at 3,300mAh (up from 2,600mAh) and supports fast charging. Due to the bigger battery, its weight increases from 141g to 172g, and its thickness increased by 1mm to 7.3mm.

The Galaxy A5 (2016) has a slightly bigger and higher resolution display (5.2-inches, Full-HD) compared to its predecessor (5.0-inch, HD). It also runs on a 1.6GHz octa-core processor compared to the 1.2GHz quad-core chipset in its predecessor. Other upgraded specs include a bigger battery (2,900mAh vs 2,300mAh) and optical image stabilization for the 13-megapixel rear camera. It is thicker (7.3mm vs 6.7mm) and heavier (155g vs 123g) than the Galaxy A5 (2015).

Last, but not least, the Galaxy A3 (2016) gets upgraded in the display size (4.7-inches from 4.5-inches), resolution (qHD to HD), processor (1.5GHz quad-core from 1.2GHz quad-core), RAM (1.5 from 1.0), camera (13MP f/1.9 rear from 8MP) and battery capacity (2,300mAh from 1,900mAh).

Both the Galaxy A5 and A7 (2016) will support Samsung Pay which will be protected by fingerprint verification technology embedded in their home buttons. Samsung states that the Galaxy A (2016) will be available in China from mid-December and will roll out to other global markets.
