Samsung is doubling down its efforts on Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) for its foldable phones according to Korean publication DDaily.

Sources familiar with the matter claim that Samsung is working with Corning to lower the price of UTG for foldable phones. Both companies reportedly signed an agreement for a new UTG supply chain in the U.S. Corning's UTG solution is still in development and will only be ready for consumer devices in 2021.

For now, Samsung will continue to use UTG from German manufacturer Schott. The upcoming Galaxy Fold 2, which is expected to be unveiled in the first week of August, is said to be using UTG. It will be the second device after the Galaxy Z Flip to use UTG.

It remains to be seen if Corning's UTG solution will be more durable than current offerings. A series of durability tests done on the Galaxy Z Flip by JerryRigEverything casts doubt on the scratch resistance of UTG.
