Apple initially stated that "a very small number of iPhone 6s devices" may experience unexpected shutdowns due to a battery issue. However, it seems that the problem could be more widespread than it had expected. Apparently, some iPhone 6s devices with serial numbers falling outside the limited range have the same problem.
In an updated support document on its Chinese website, Apple wrote that it requires more diagnostic data to determine the cause of the problem. It will be adding an additional diagnostic feature to the iOS software update that is scheduled to be released next week.
This diagnostic feature will collect a variety of information over the next few weeks that could help Apple uncover the cause of the problem and improve the algorithms for managing battery performance and shutdown operations. If such improvements can be achieved, future software updates will be delivered to address the issue.
