Early Geekbench results for what reportedly is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 device have surfaced. It is unknown if the device is a phone or a tablet, but the results are promising.

The results showcase gains over its predecessor scoring 2,884 points in single-core and 8,840 points in multi-core tests. This is approximately a 26% and 23% increase in single and multi-core performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Compared to the A17 Pro chip found in the latest iPhone 15 Pro Max, it falls short by just 26 points in the single-core score and beats the A17 Pro by 1,772 points (~20%) in multi-core score.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 marks a significant shift in Qualcomm's approach, featuring a custom Oryon CPU design instead of standard Arm cores. This is the same Oryon CPU used in the Snapdragon X Elite and the Snapdragon X Plus chipsets, albeit modified for a phone instead of a laptop.

This new architecture features an octa-core configuration with two high-performance cores clocked at 4.09 GHz and six efficiency cores running at 2.78 GHz.

Manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to deliver substantial improvements in both CPU and GPU performance. The chip will incorporate the Adreno 830 GPU, though specific details on its capabilities have yet to be revealed.

According to tipster Digital Chat Stationthe Xiaomi 15 series could be the first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, potentially launching shortly after the chip’s official announcement.

However, these improvements will come at a cost. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip will be 25-40% more expensive than its predecessor, which could lead to higher prices for flagship Android devices in 2025.
