Qualcomm partners Trimble to bring metre-level location accuracy to Android phones
Phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 chipsets can get five times better location accuracy compared to existing technology.

Qualcomm and Trimble (a connected services company) are partnering up to bring metre-level accuracy to Android phones, according to an official statement jointly released by the two firms.

Trimble RTX GNSS's precise locator technology will appear on Android phones containing either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset (2022 Android flagship handsets) or the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform (2021 Android flagship mobiles).
According to Trimble, its positioning software offers location accuracy down to the metre (1m), which is five times improved over existing positioning software built into mobile phones.
Both firms jointly said this technology would vastly improve users' driving, private-hire riding, and mapping experiences. For instance, pick-up addresses for riders and drivers would be more accurate than before, navigation while on the roads would get lane-level accuracy, and map apps won't throw your icon all over the place, offering more exact directions.
