If you own an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device that is operating on iOS 8 or later, please don’t set your device’s date to May 1970 or earlier. This deliberate move may just render your device inoperable! However, the bug will only affect an iOS device that has a 64-bit processor; i.e., A7, A8, A8X, A9 and A9X processors.

This means any iOS device that is an iPhone 5s or later, will be affected by this bug. 32-bit iOS devices are in the clear. This bug has been confirmed by Apple, and according to the company, an upcoming software update will patch this issue. 9to5Mac was early to pick up on this issue and the site has even highlighted a video that demonstrated the steps to replicate this bug.

Some Reddit users, who encountered this bug, have recommended some steps to recover affected devices; however, those devices were “...very laggy….” The best solution for any user, who has encountered this unfortunate bug, is a trip to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
