Prominent analyst cuts sales forecast for iPhone XR in 2019

Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a solid track record of leaks and information on Apple's products, has lowered his estimates for the iPhone XR in 2019.

Once tipped to be the hot seller, the iPhone XR is reportedly faring badly in the market.

Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has lowered his forecast for the iPhone XR sales from a range of 20 to 25 million units to between 15 million to 20 million units. Overall, Kuo expects iPhone sales to drop between 16% to 24% in Q1 2019.

While Kuo acknowledged that there was an increase in orders for older iPhone models, the sales "cannot offset the decline of XR and XS series shipments because of the low season impact". Nonetheless, Kuo believes revenue from iPhone sales could increase in 2019 due to higher average selling prices which will offset the decline in shipments.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that the lower-than-expected demand for the iPhone XS and XR has created a lot of issues for the supply chain partners. Days later, Apple revealed that the iPhone XR has been the most popular iPhone each and every day since the day it became available
