In a statement to the media today (15 November 2024), OPPO has shared how its choice of MediaTek’s processor benefits certain features unique to the Find X8 series.
The press statement revealed that the stock version of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 was used in both phones. Its main Arm Cortex-X925 CPU core is clocked at 3.62GHz, and its 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU has improved ray-tracing performance.
However, there are under-the-hood optimisations to use these flagship-tier MediaTek processors better.
OPPO additions to maximise the MediaTek Dimensity 9400
First is OPPO's choice of silicone-carbon battery technology, which increases its battery capacity beyond conventional lithium-ion types. OPPO claimed that the higher capacities also take advantage of Dimensity 9400’s 40% better power efficiency (when compared to a Dimensity 9300-backed phone).
OPPO also used the chipset's 8th-generation NPU (which is supposedly 80% faster at prompt performance and 35% more efficient) by working directly with Google. Despite being a Chinese-backed device, it has Pixel features like Magic Compose in Google Messages for context-aware auto-replies in multiple languages.
The Imagiq imaging sensing processor (ISP) on the MediaTek chipset also works hard, thanks to OPPO’s collaboration with Hasselblad. The ISP has to contend with the Find X8 series' Hasselblad Master Camera System and OPPO’s HyperTone Image Engine (the latter of which debuted on the OPPO Find X7 Ultra), which are responsible for the collective AI-powered zoom features, low-light performance, and HDR video recording capabilities. OPPO said that the MediaTek chipset also helps reduce the power consumption of 4K60FPS recording by 14%.
Less sexy but still equally important is OPPO’s proprietary AI LinkBoost, which powers the Find X8 series’ connectivity suite (mobile data, Wi-Fi, etc.) and improves upon the modems provided by Dimensity 9400. OPPO gave the example of its its AI LinkBoost being able to help users stay online even in crowded venues (like stadiums), while also tapping in to MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0 to reach an extra 30 metres of Wi-Fi coverage.
The OPPO Find X8 series will be available in Singapore, and pre-registration details can be found here.
