Would you feel secure with a super duper thin foldable phone? OPPO thinks it’s something people really want.

Billy Zhang, President of Overseas Marketing, Sales and Service at OPPO, uploaded a comparison image between OPPO’s Find N5 and Apple’s iPad Pro (M4) on his Twitter/X social media account.

The image implies that the unfolded Find N5 can be visibly thinner than the Apple iPad Pro (M4); our review shows that the latter is merely 5.1mm. The text hints at a February 2025 launch of this device.

If Billy's title wasn't enough of a clue, another hint is how the post was written in English on X instead of the usual Chinese-language Weibo platform. This suggests that OPPO intends to launch this phone internationally, forgoing the China-first strategy most Chinese phone brands adhere to.

(Note: Over at HWZ, we spoke to Billy Zhang twice — you can see his thoughts on OPPO here and here).

If you’re keeping tabs, a book-style foldable phone thinner than Apple’s tablet is already possible. The Honor Magic V3 (review here) is 4.35mm thin when unfolded. It’d be nearly impossible for OPPO not to know what its Chinese rivals are up to, so we can infer that OPPO deliberately compared itself to one of Apple’s thinnest products to incite a reaction from OPPO’s fanbase and Apple’s users.

Separately, a tipster on X (@TechHome100) uploaded a series of photos that allegedly showcased the OPPO Find N5 in the wild. The tipster seemed to have taken pictures of the OPPO foldable at a closed-door dinner party, but there’s no indication of the device’s authenticity. After all, OPPO’s teaser doesn’t include the camera housing, so there isn’t a way to verify if the real-world snaps are the same device (for now).

We’re curious to learn whether the OPPO Find N5 made itself thinner than the Honor Magic V3 since Honor’s book-style foldable handset was already pushing the limits of having a USB-C port. Guess we’ll all learn more when February rolls around.
