OPPO Find N5 allegedly to get Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and better battery life

It looks like the OPPO Find N5 isn’t foldable to be trifled with, and the rumours are all pointing in that same direction, too.

Digital Chat Station, a popular Chinese phone tipster on Weibo, posted a cheeky update summarising everything they knew about the incoming OPPO Find N5 book-style foldable into one sentence. When translated, it said:

“(The) official “preheating” of OPPO Find N5 has officially begun. (It will have) Snapdragon 8 Elite, supporting wireless charging, have IPX8-rated waterproofing, a 50MP periscope-styled telephoto, an impact-resistant physical structure, a “C15” system”, and (it will be) lighter, (with a) longer battery life. It may be released in the first half of next year (2025), and it will be the only Android flagship foldable device launching in that time,” said Digital Chat Station.

Where did the OPPO Find N4 go?

Let’s break down their rumour based on what HWZ knows.

“Preheating” is likely a figure of speech referring to the marketing behaviour before any product or service launch, when rumours, leaks, and other telltale signs are “accidentally” released to generate buzz and hype.

The upcoming book-style foldable’s name, OPPO Find N5, is also unsurprising. Previously, OPPO also jumped from the Find X3 Pro to the Find X5 Pro. This practice of eschewing the number “4” stems from a widely known belief that it’s an unlucky number (this phenomenon is called tetraphobia).

It seems like someone powerful in OPPO is also quite superstitious, having omitted the number 4 twice in OPPO’s Find series devices. Technically, this makes the OPPO Find N5 the rightful successor to the OPPO Find N3.

OPPO’s longstanding partnerships with leading chip designers, like Qualcomm and MediaTek, make it unsurprising that the foldable will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Qualcomm also namedropped OPPO as one of the brands that will use the 2025 Android flagship-grade processor, so both companies concur on this point.

Given their asking price and categorisation, we'd expect the Find N series phones to include wireless charging, IP-rated waterproofing, and periscope telephoto cameras for optical zoom.

The “C15 system” likely refers to ColorOS 15, OPPO’s proprietary reskin of the Android 15 operating system.

Also, OPPO confirmed that it had changed its flagship phone strategy to foldables in H1 and conventional bar types in H2 every calendar year.

However, whether it’ll be the only flagship foldable device to grace the market in H1 2025 remains to be seen. Until then, the OPPO Find N5 will be stealing the limelight early next year.
