OPPO starts up AI centre, brings generative AI to Reno series phones
The OPPO AI Eraser is a feature available to Reno11 series phones in Q2 2024.

OPPO announced the establishment of its new OPPO AI Centre, a research and development site by the Chinese smartphone brand that’s built to improve upon OPPO’s artificial intelligence capabilities for its devices.
The OPPO AI Centre is located at OPPO AndesBrain (Binhaiwan Bay) IDC, and it is found in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China. With it, OPPO seeks to bring its users its AI perks, especially via smartphones.
OPPO’s definition of AI Smartphones
OPPO has outlined four major characteristics that would define what AI on smartphones woud look like:
- Efficiently utilise computing resources to meet the computational needs of generative AI in the AI era
- Timely awareness of the real world through sensors, understanding the complex information of users and the environment
- Possess powerful self-learning capabilities
- Have multimodal content generation abilities, providing users with “continuous inspiration and knowledge support”
OPPO said that its AI focus would complement and enhance existing app-based smartphone ecosystems. The first of which is OPPO’s own LLM (large language model), AndesGPT, which has 180 billion parameters for dialogue enhancement, personalisation, cloud-device collaboration and more. AndesGPT was first introduced on the OPPO Find X7 series phones.
OPPO Reno11 series to get AI features next
To make further inroads with AI capabilities, OPPO is introducing a consumer-facing AI feature to the OPPO Reno11 series.
All OPPO Reno11 series phones globally will receive an update in Q2 2024, gaining AI features like OPPO’s AI Eraser and more.
