Nubia, an independent Chinese smartphone brand previously owned by ZTE, just launched its new budget flagship product, the Nubia Z70S Ultra. This phone boasts a unique camera system paired with its long-standing adherence to an immersive display with no camera cutouts for its front shooter.
Let’s examine what’s offered and how it tries to be different from every other flagship alternative on the market.

The Nubia Z70S Ultra packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage technologies, making its core internals unmistakably flagship.
Other high-end aspects include its 6.85-inch, 2,688 x 1,216-pixel resolution AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, the phone’s IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance, and minor advanced perks like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 compatibility.

The display is unique from other phone brands, because Nubia uses its latest 7th-generation under-display camera (UDC) and 2nd-generation Longxi Durable Glass. This means that the Nubia Z70S Ultra has a hidden 16MP front camera that only shows itself when needed, while offering an uninterrupted viewing experience when the camera idles.
Unique to the phone is the rear camera array, collectively known by its super-long name: 5th-generation Neo Master native 35mm custom optical system.

The 50MP main camera uses an Omnivision OV50H sensor, offering optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a f/1.7 lens aperture. It’s accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide (OV50D sensor, f/2.0, AutoFocus, and 2.5cm macro focusing distance) and a 64MP telephoto (f/2.48, 70mm focal length, OIS). Nubia also included a flicker + laser sensor to assist this camera system.
Nubia's built-in AI imaging model enhances photos right out of the cameras. It is designed for specific yet challenging shooting scenarios: AI Motion Capture (for fast-moving subjects), AI Sunset, and AI Milky Way Night. Also included is a physical, mechanical shutter button with dual-stage control.

Other specs include its 6,600mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging, NFC support, and skinny 1.25mm bezels around its display panel. It also has dual nano-SIM support, but it lacks wireless charging and eSIM support. The phone runs on its proprietary reskin of Android 15 called Nebula AIOS.
