Nokia is pulling the plug on Symbian, which was once the most popular smartphone platform until it was subdued by Android, towards the end of 2010. Slightly more than two years ago, Nokia had announced that it would employ Microsoft's Windows Phone as its chief smartphone OS. Then, in the middle of 2012, Nokia 808 PureView equipped with Symbian was launched, but failed to hit the expected sales target despite its staggering 41-megapixel camera and flamboyant design. Earlier this year, Nokia had officially acknowledged the 808 PureView to be the last smartphone running on the Symbian platform.
